The difference between our products and other products on the market.
- Many skin care products on the market today contain harsh
chemicals. All of Perrin’s Products antioxidant skin nutrition-blends
are 100% pure and natural.
- Many skin products are petroleum and/or mineral oil based. Perrin Products uses beeswax, cocoa butter and healthy oils.
- Many skin products contain man-made perfumes and artificial dyes.
Perrin’s Products uses none of these -- color comes from grapeseed
extract, and/or beta carotene; fragrance is derived from natural
aromatic oils such as peppermint, lemon, lavender or rosemary oils.
- Many skin products, such as popular lotions, contain large amounts
of water (sometimes as much as 90%). Perrin’s Products puts no water
in their skin blends. Instead, for hydration Perrin’s Products uses
nutritional items like honey, pure aloe vera and vegetable glycerin.
(Why use water? You can get water for your skin from a faucet!)
- Many skin products contain alcohol and/or chemical preservatives.
Perrin’s Products skin preservatives are natural Vitamin E and pure
honey.
- Many skin products use emulsifying agents with strange names that
only a chemist can identify. Ingredients in Perrin’s Products skin
blends are readily identifiable substances.
We, at Perrin’s Products, put nothing in our formulations that we feel would harm the outer skin or inner body.
So what do we use in our Soothing Salve?
Antioxidants:
- N-Acetyl Cysteine (or NAC)- NAC is a sulfur containing amino acid
that is needed to produce the free radical fighter glutathione and
maintain it at adequate levels in cells. It helps to detoxify the body
of chemicals and other poisons and slows the aging process. Studies
have shown that NAC can play a role in the reduction of cancer cells.
- Alpha Lipoic Acid - Alpha lipoic acid has shown time and again in
clinical trials to be successful for protecting cells from free-radical
damage. Free radicals are unstable molecules caused from normal
situations like metabolism to unhealthy activities like smoking, and
are a major culprit of wrinkling and the loss of firmness associated
with normal aging. Studies also suggest alpha lipoic acid may benefit
skin cells and therefore improve skin texture and wrinkles.
Vitamins:
- E -- Vitamin E is an antioxidant that research has shown to have a
variety of benefits for the skin. Studies have shown vitamin E may
help decrease the effects if psoriasis and erythema, in the reduction
of stretch marks, in the reduction of scarring from wounds, and it may
help to reduce the risk of skin cancer. A study from Duke University
concluded that "Appreciable photoprotection can be obtained from the
combination of topical vitamins C and E. We suggest that these natural
products may protect against skin cancer and photoaging".
- A -- The body uses vitamin A for maintenance of healthy skin, good
vision and a robust immune system. It is also a free radical fighting
antioxidant and therefore is anti-aging.
- D -- Vitamin D can help control the proliferation of skin cells
that lead to psoriatic lesions. Vitamin D deficiency may lead to skin
malignancies (skin cancer). Topically applied Vitamin D may reduce DNA
damage in skin that leads to skin cancer.
- C -- Vitamin C is one of the most common antioxidants. It
recharges other antioxidants like vitamin E. It helps prevent
premature aging and is is required for the synthesis of collagen in the
skin. Collagen can be seen as the foundation of healthy and young
looking skin. Collagen is the main protein of connective tissue in
humans making up about 25% of the total protein content. A study from
Duke University concluded that "Appreciable photoprotection can be
obtained from the combination of topical vitamins C and E. We suggest
that these natural products may protect against skin cancer and
photoaging".
- Biotin-- Biotin is a B vitamin that is needed for healthy skin and hair.
Oils:
- Grapeseed oil -- Light, odorless oil, derived from the seeds of
Italian grapes with mild astringent properties that prevent it from
clogging pores. It gives a silky feel to the skin that can soothe away
dryness and irritation.
- Castor oil -- A pure, natural emollient that softens and nourishes
skin, gives relief to join and muscle pain, and is therapeutic in
massages.
- Sweet Almond -- An easily absorbed, natural vegetable derived
extract dating back to Biblical times that promotes healthy skin. It
moisturizes and nourishes skin without clogging pores.
- Extra virgin olive oil -- Extra Virgin Olive Oil is rich in
polyphenol antioxidants and therefore protects the skin from harmful
and damaging free radicals. Since ancient times, Mediterranean people
have used olive oil to hydrate, regenerate and soften their skin.
Olive is extremely high is oleic acid. Research has suggested that
oleic acid may help to prevent against cancer.
- Soy oil -- Soy oil is a natural source of lecithin, sterolins, and vitamin E.
- Safflower oil -- Safflower oil is a deeply soothing highly moisturizing oil with an exceptionally high amount of oleic acid.
Aromatic Oils:Lavender oil--Human clinical studies have reported that lavender essential oil may be
beneficial in a variety of conditions, including insomnia, alopecia
(hair loss), anxiety, stress, and postoperative pain. It may also have
antibacterial and antiviral properties. Because of its aroma, lavender oil many times is used massage therapy, acupuncture,
and chiropractic manipulation.
Rosemary oil -- Rosemary has been used since ancient times for a
varitiy of purposes. Rosemary oil has been used to relieve headaches,
muscle pains, sore muscles, rheumatism and even arthritis. Rosemary is
also used in many aromatic therapies.
- Peppermint oil -- Peppermint is a natural source of menthol.
Studies have shown that topical application of peppermint stimulates
the nerves that detect cold, leading to the cooling sensation. The
nerves that perceive pain and itching are depressed. This leads to the
dialation of the blood vessels, which can promote healing.
- Lemon oil -- Lemon oil is used in natural skin care to cleanse,
tone and refresh skin. Lemon oil tightens puffy skin, reduces enlarged
pores and helps disperse pockets of accumulated fluid and impurities.
- Beeswax -- We use beeswax instead of petroleum because it contains
“wax esthers” that also exist in human skin. It is a natural hydrating
agent that increases essential moisture in the skin. Beeswax has a
very low irritation potential and promotes healing and softening of
skin and is an antiseptic.
Liquids:
- Vegetable glycerin -- Vegetable glycerin is a skin-friendly
humectant that attracts water into the skin as well as a binding agent
that occurs naturally in vegetables. It is anti-bacterial and works to
make the skin supple while fighting dryness and scaling.
